Film Report

In the groups presentation I think that the feedback was really useful in helping us decide on how to make the film. I feel that when practicing the presentation the group gained a better understanding of the narrative and it helped the group improve and experiment with different ideas. The group held meetings for the presentation which I think helped us time manage for the film. We had constant communication to make sure everyone in the group was on time and had equipment prepared for making the film. We mostly used mobiles and the virtual learning portal to contact each other.

While researching ideas I found a book singular Images (1) very useful in helping me make the film. The book consists of essays focusing on the uniqueness of individual photographs. While I was making the film I tried to make sure that each shot had significance and a purpose in the film.

I think that the group worked well together but at the start we had clashes on how to make the film. After resolving that problem we started to experiment with the equipment that I hired. We wanted smooth shots around the house and wanted the film to have atmosphere. Using and experimenting with the camcorder was very important in achieving our goal. We experimented shots with different apertures and tried different lightings and positioning of the camcorder. We tried using a stabilizer but it didn’t produce the shots we wanted. We started to then use the tracking dolly and tracks to get the camera to move around the house. I got some really good shots and I think that this piece of equipment helped the most in making the film. We also experimented with the lighting kit to add atmosphere to our film but didn’t work as well as we had intended. The light was too bright while shooting in confined spaces around the house. This wasn’t the kind of effect we were looking for so we started to experiment with different lights e.g. touches, lamps, candles etc.

During the film production I think that teamwork was really important in completing the film. The group relied on each other and if one member didn’t show then there would be a delay in the filming e.g. if the props weren’t at the filming then we couldn’t film that part. Time management was a slight problem especially meeting on time because we had to shot at particular times because of outside lighting.

When I started to edit the film there wasn’t enough computers with Adobe Premiere so I had to start editing on the apple Macs with the program Finalcut Pro. The group didn’t know how to use the program so I did some research to find the tutorial in the virtual learning portal but there wasn’t a tutorial there. I found a tutorial book in the library and started to learn the basic of the program. This was very useful in completing the film plus I feel I have gained a new skill in the process. The only major problem while editing was that I saved the film as a quick time file but needed it in avi format which was easily corrected in Finalcut Pro.

I think that I have accomplished all the learning outcomes of the module. We produced a presentation that I think went really well because we had basic ideas but after the presentation we filtered our ideas to a more specific narrative. I feel that I have gained an understanding of the process in film making and would enjoy making more films in future projects. I really enjoyed making the film in my group because there was a lot of ideas discussed and experimented with a lot of equipment which gave us more ideas on how to shoot the film. I feel the team worked well together and I have learnt a lot in producing the film.

I think that the film worked really well and I wouldn’t change much of it. The only thing I would change is the title and credits, making them more presentable but we had a time limit for the film including the title and credits which meant we had to edit the film to include it.

I been discussing with the group about publishing our film on certain internet sites such as the hub, dailymotions and youtube. I think this would be a great way for viewers to view our film and to gain important feedback. We have been showing certain people the film to see if they understand the narrative, which was successful.

I think that this experience will be useful in future projects. I think I have a better understanding of the type of equipments used and the effects that can be achieved with them. I have really enjoyed making the film and working in teams and would like to pursue it in my spare time.
