In Sneinton there's alot of crime. I use to be a ex criminal myself. We sort of take the kids off the street. Its good for them, it's like they learn alot of discipline
What ever they have to, they get told to do they do. It keeps them off the streets and learn cricket. We've got two, three teams playing sunday. we've been having that for the last fifteen years. It started off with kids, as little, we've all grown up and we've got kids and we coach the kids from there and before we know it from ten kids we got to about 40 kid last time now.

Seeing the kids playing, it's just like, I suppose you see yourself playing again. We used to play like back street cricket. We did'nt have a club to go to, so it's just something you want the kids to do because we did'nt have it ourselves.

ONE SHOT FILM

Audiovisual Design

Non Fiction Project

We re-shot the interview and the training scenes for the documentary. The interview went well but the footage was a littel dark because of some bad lighting but when editing we will change the light contrast with a filter. We filmed alot of training footage which we had lacked previously and got some very good shots. The sound quality isnt great on the training footage because of the distance of some the shots and the lagre hall we were shooting in. The volunteers were very natural in front of the camera which gives a more realistic and relaxed feel to the documentary.

Documentary Concept

Community Volunteer

The documentary will show the audience the people that help the community. We interview Javid Khan, one of the many volunteers that help teach cricket. We learn why Javid became a volunteer and how he wants to help makes a difference in other peoples lives. We see the volunteers use cricket as a meduim to teach ideals and values such as discipline, respect and commitment. We see why the club was started and how the children and the community benefit from the project.

Task - create a 30-60 sec film using one shot

As a group we decided to pick the ganster genre for the theme of our film. We then researched the genre to create a storyline. We looked at crime and criminal organisations to get a better understand of they're activities.
"Criminal organizations keep illegal actions secret, and members communicate by word of mouth, therefore police will never be able to trace phone calls or letters. Many organized crime operations have legal fronts, such as licensed gambling, building construction, and trash hauling, or which operate in parallel with and provide cover for drug trafficking, money laundering, prostitution, extortion, murder for hire, hijacking, fraud, and insider trading. Other criminal operations engage in human trafficking, political corruption, black marketeering, political violence, racist and religiously motivated violence, terrorism, abduction, prison break and crimes against humanity."
Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organized_crime

We then chose to include kidnapping and human trafficking. We create a storyline that would have a instanst impact while keeping to the theme. I found a great location for the shoot and got the actors for the characters for the film.

The location was dark and quite so it was place to shoot without getting too many interuptions. We had planned to shoot the film late in the evening so that there was less noise and light. The shoot had taken about 30mins to set up and about an hour to finish. We did test shots and experimented with the focus to gain to best shot.

Feedback with Non Fiction Project

After the feedback we decided to shoot some of the scenes again. We are arranging another session to film the training parts again. We decided to switch our roles in the filming to gain more experience and to experiment with the kit. My new role is director, Ash is production, Rob is editing, Luke is sound.
The documentary had bad sound quality because we did not use the right equipment so the tape and air conditioner could be heard on the film. Rob has improved the sound quality which he emailed me http://www.mediafire.com/?3bmdmcdbfft
We had alot to edit to get the film down to 3 mins so we decided to cut the beginning in which he explains who he is and use text to fill in the gaps and keep the continuity. The rough edit lacked visuals and mostly concentrated on the interviewee so the group decided to shoot some of the street scenes again because I think it plays an important part of building a image of the area. The rough edit had too much of the interviewee talking so we place breaks in the film. I think that the breaks give it a much more relaxed unrushed approach. In the break we will fill the parts with images of the area and the interviewee training with the children. The training shots we had to use were out of focus and the white balance wasn't set, the quality of the film wasn't great so I decided that it would be better to shoot it again as that was a important part of the film.
While the group is finishing editing and the paperwork I will be working on the research, storyboards, the presentation and planning for the re-shoot.

DOCUMENTARY

Our group has decided to make a documentary on a cricket coach. We will interview the coach himself and the other team members to gain a better understanding of the subject.

These are a few questions we decided to ask;
1) When was the cricket club open?

2) Why was the club open?

3) What sponsers/funding do you have?

4) What's the purpose of the club?

5) What do you teach in the 2hrs?

6) What age group do you teach?

7) Is this a on going club?

8) What other clubs are there in Nottingham?

9) Is this your full-time job?

10) Do you have any more clubs in Nottingham?

11) Do you have any scheme in the the summer?
12) Who/what are your inspirations?
13) Have you any plans for the future?
14) Do you see yourself doing this in 10 years?
15) Do you enjoy working here?
