3 Point Lighting Seminar

I found this seminar very useful as I have already experiment with the kit but I didn't use it to its full capabilities. I liked how hands on the seminar was and feel I learned alot in the lesson. We started with the health and safety aspect of lighting. We were then shown how to handle the lighting equipment and listened to the explanation of the equipment. We were then given the task of lighting a person using different filters to show the least amount of shadow on the subject. We had to light the subject with 3 lights from 3 points, equal angles apart, but can be at different heights. I hope to use the knowledge I gained in the next film project.

Making a Film

In the last few weeks my group has been experimenting with a range of equipment for the production of our film. There has been differculty in trying to get smooth shots while moving around the set(house). I found the most useful equipment for this problem was the dolly and tracks which helped us get some decent shots. We experimented with the stabilizer but it was differcult to keep steady and didn't work well when we tried to get a shot of going up the stairs. The camera tended to sway to one side when we tried a moving shot. We also experimented with the lighting kit and found it useful in many areas but didnt have all the filters to take full advantage of the kit.

Interactive Narrative

Over the last few weeks I have been trying to complete my interactive narrative. I have completed resizing all my images and I have linked the in Dreamweaver. I have had problems in trying to put text on my images so I used some existing javascript on www.coalesce.eu to help me complete my work. I found this website really useful and feel I have a better understanding of javascripting. I feel i need to practice more so i borrowed a few books to help me understand javascripting.

Interactive Narrative 14/11/06

9.00 a.m. I had a intresting lecture on the interactive design. It was split into 3 categories, engineering, design and fine art. I enjoyed viewing the examples of each category and how they are linked. Engineering is the advances of technology therefore there is a rise in design standards leading to advances in technology. This allows easier access to technology which means shifting away from labour intensive work allowing the rise of consumerism and a diversification from old media therefore a advances in computers. I think that fine art incorporates these new advances in technology to make/perform new art work.

10.00 a.m. I have been working on and cropping my photos to put onto dreamweaver. I started to link my photos together but when i previewed them they were too large so I re-sized them. Many of my photos couldn't be used because i had taken them in portrait which means i have to retake these photos in landscape and allow space for cropping. I feel that i have learnt from my mistakes and try to not make them in the future but i know that i should allow time for such problems.

Presentation 2/11/06

Group B Group 7

I think that the group presentation went well. I feel that we presented our narrative story clearly and had given a good idea of the direction we are trying to take the film. There was critism about our narrative but I think that it helped us decide which parts to include and exclude in making the film. I feel we as a group could improve on the scheduling of our group work by holding more meeting to discuss our process in making this film. We concluded as a group that we needed to book equipment out to practice and experiment with before we can establish which shots to use in our film.

I enjoyed watching the other presentations to see how the other groups have worked and how they presented their narratives. These presentations have helped me understand how I could improve my own presentational skills in the future.

Narratives Lecture 1 31/10/06

9.00 a.m. Mise-en-scene
We had a lecture on mise-en-scene, french for "putting into the scene". It is about design for directing, an approach for the whole script. It is an oppotunity to develop an approach for the film.

Mise-en-scene is a combination of;

Blocking
Camera
Image Design
Dramatic Content
Sound Design

I think that the lecture was very interesting and enjoyed watching clips of film being analysed to see how mise-en-scene works. I would like to try to use this approach in film making in future projects.
